They clean our air. They create oxygen. They beautify our environment. Trees are particularly important in cities, where there is often very little green space. They create a noise barrier, making our streets quieter. They cool the air and ground around them, and they absorb rainwater and cleanse it of toxins. From the enormous Sycamore to the shrub-like Silky Dogwood, many species of native trees do well in the city.
Plant a Sweet Gum for beautiful fall color. Tulip Trees are beautiful flowering trees (they grow to 75-90 feet, so be sure that you have enough space before planting one). If you're looking for a smaller option, Witch Hazel and Redbud are small species that do well in this area, and adding a Sweet Pepper Bush to your lawn will make it attractive to pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Below is a list of native trees that would likely do well in your yard or on your street.

Taking care of street trees is everyone's responsibility. Trees need care, especially during the first 2 years after planting. You can water them, especially during dry periods, check them for disease and insects, and, perhaps most importantly, keep people from damaging them.
