Bike with us through the watershed! (Noon to 3pm)
The Nine Mile Run Bike Tour & Block Party is back for its second year! This year’s guided bike tour will cover 9 miles through the watershed communities of Wilkinsburg, Regent Square, Swissvale, Homewood, Edgewood, and of course, lower Frick Park. We will explore green rainwater initiatives, community projects, and watershed features as we leisurely, and safely, traverse the watershed neighborhoods, with ride marshals from the Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club. For those of you who joined us last year, we have created a revamped route with some new locations. The tour will both begin and end at Biddle’s Escape coffee shop, starting at noon and finishing around 3pm. Proceeds from the Bike Tour’s ticket sales will go directly towards benefiting our urban environmental restoration programs and regional advocacy work.
Here’s what’s included in the Bike Tour:
– 9 mile guided tour of the watershed
– Refreshments & snacks along the route
– Official Bike Tour & Block Party bandannas & stickers (limited quantity)
– A coupon for free Curly’s Tin Rizzy Ice Cream at the end of the tour!
Party with us at Biddle’s! (2pm to 5pm)
The Bike Tour will be followed by a free entry, family friendly Block Party on Biddle’s Escape block (S. Trenton, from Biddle Ave to Union Street). Stop by from 2pm till 5pm to enjoy tasty hot dogs and burgers from Bulldawg’s, cool treats from Curly’s Tin Rizzy Ice Cream, cocktails and free samples from Wigle Whiskey, free samples from Great Lakes Brewery and Magic Hat Brewing Company, fiery pretzels from Snakeguy’s Pepper. Be sure to bring cash for the food trucks, as well as our raffle!
We will also be joined at the Block Party by:
– The sounds of funk & soul from Afro Yaqui Music Collective
– Latin American Children’s Fund to sell beautiful handmade greeting cards from El Salvador
– Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse with a fun & funky crafting project
– StormWorks to sell rain barrels and landscape design services
– Free yoga classes from Mookshi Wellness Center
What a great way to explore and celebrate your community on a fall Saturday!
We are looking for volunteers to help make sure our event runs smoothly. Sign up by August 21st to receive a Bike Tour t-shirt!
