Are you looking to learn more about why and how we should protect and conserve water here in your  community? In 2017, Nine Mile Run Watershed Association will host a series of free open houses to discuss and showcase water related topics over good brews. For each Water Talk, beer or coffee will be provided from local partners to highlight that for a good drink, clean water is the main ingredient.  At every Water Talk, our staff will host interactive discussions regarding the actions you can take to contribute to a healthy watershed community. The Water Talks will be held at the NMRWA office in Wilkinsburg.

Talk #3: Beer & Trees

Join us for Beer & Trees, our third installment in our free, quarterly Water Talks series. Enjoy some great brews from Green Flash Brewing Co. while our staff urban forester Jared Manzo discusses how trees impact the movement of water in the soil and across our urban hardscapes. Additionally, Jared will be sharing some analysis of our recent street tree inventory. Prior to the talk that day, we are also leading two Asian longhorn beetle walks at 10am and 5pm as part of ALB Awareness Month, departing from our office at 321 Pennwood.

Don’t forget to let us know how you feel about the trees in your neighborhood! August is your final chance to complete our resident tree survey! It takes just five minutes and will help inform the Watershed Forest Master Plan.

Water Talks partners

The partners for Water Talks are committed to conserving and protecting our water resources. Our coffee partner is La Prima, a local roaster with its well-known cafe in the Strip District. La Prima will be represented by Abby Devlin, a previous intern with NMRWA and an on-going committed volunteer who has hosted several stream clean-ups. Our brewery partner is Green Flash Brewing Company and will be represented by Nate Levi, the regional representative who is also a NMR watershed resident and supported last year’s Bike Tour and Block Party.
